An Inspector of Police brutally assault a Police Sergeant

An Inspector of Police brutally assault a Police Sergeant
It was reported that a Police Sergeant attached to Inginiyagala Police Station(Uva Provonce) was brutally assaulted by the Officer in Charge of the said Police Station.
According to information received, the Sergeant who sustained severe injuries was admitted to Ampara General Hospital, treated for 7 days and referred to Colombo National Hospital for further treatment
The incident took place on 18 June 2012 at about 5.00 pm when the said Sergeant went to inquire about an unjust-transfer from the said Officer in Charge.
The Officer in Charge who is of Inspector Grade, had started to scold the Sergeant in abusive language, taken him to his office room and hit him by his official revolver.
On the same day at around 8.00 pm the Police Sergeant who received grievous injuries had got himself admitted to the Ampara General Hospital and after inward treatment for 7 days he had been discharged on the 25th
According to reports, the Assistant Superintended of Police had recorded a statement and in the mean time the Special Police Unit, ‘SOCO’ had met the Sergeant, also recorded his statement, and had took into custody the uniforms, which were found with bloodstains.
Here, what we have learned from reliable source was that, the incident was not been reported to Magistrate as stipulated by law.
There we found a strong effect of safeguarding the Inspector of Police which clearly shows that even after the laps of 7 days, Police Higher-ups have not taken any legal or disciplinary action against the said Officer in Charge, Inspector Dias.
This is an ideal example, which clearly exhibits the collapse of the mechanism of internal discipline in Police Service and the magnitude of Police Torture.
