A man was abducted by Mirihana Police, subjected to torture and produced before court on false allegations.
According to the torture survivor, he was abducted when he was going for work in broad day light by seven policemen attached to Mirihana Police and ex-army personnel all were riding on motor cycles and dressed in civil. The retired Army Officer was the guide.
After abduction he was taken to a lonely cemetery, away from the main road where he was blind folded and assaulted severely threatening to kill him. Then he was taken to Mirihana Police in a van. In the van he was again assaulted and was pushed in between the seats on the floor of the van.
At Mirihana Police Station he was tortured for 4 days without giving water or food. On the fifth day he was taken to a room named by them as ‘Torture Chamber’. At the torture chamber he was hanged and assaulted. All these days he was kept blind folded.
When he was there, he was not permitted to go for his nature calls, but was severely assaulted and due to that urine and bowls were passed out beyond his control.
On the last day he was taken out of the chamber, bathed and was forced to wear wet cloths.
In the afternoon he was taken to court and an order was obtained to detain him for 48 hour. At the end of 48 hours Mirihana Police did not obey the court order, but detained him further and forced to white wash the police building.
After two days he was released on bail and when he went to the Government Hospital and received treatment, there it was found that he was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and severe nerve complications.
Though the Police recorded his complaint no inquiry was initiated by the higher authorities.NB:- Details of the case will be published in due course.
