Dear Chitral
This is to inform you about making use of our letter written to the His Eminence the Cardinal dated on the 22nd Feb. 2013. inordinately.
This letter was drafted on the 7th February 2013 before even Pope Benedict XVI announced his retirement and due to various reasons it got delayed.

You have made the people to understand that we wrote the letter in view of the forthcoming papal election as an adverse comment? It is beyond our view of things. we have had many reasons to write this letter to His Eminence the Cardinal.

It was not our intention to campaign for His Eminence for or aginst him. It was just to tell him that what we feel on certain matters and certain of his decisions regarding some common issues. This no way implies that our group the Clergy and Religious involved in Human Rights to campaign for and against Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. When you write such letters you should also be concerned with the culture, the words used and verify the exact terms and the retiring Pope called as Pope Emeritus was not the Benedict XVIII but He was Pope Benedict XVI. We can excuse you and forgive you for these mistakes and shortcomings. But to read in to our motives is something that we find difficult to understand. If you had any doubts you could verify from the signatories who are known to you.

Please do give publicity to this letter so that the people may not have a wrong interpretation of our letter to His Eminence. It is like the faithful Christians writing to their leader and nothing more is implied.

Wish you all the best in your work
Your faithfully,
Rev. Fr. Reid Shelton Fernando
