Mother Claims: Fiscal Officers Used Police To Remand Her Son Who Refuses to Give Bribes

A 70-year-old mother called Jayawathi says her son was arrested and remanded because she refused to give bribes to two fiscal officers attached to Court. The bribe cost Rs 15000 and was demanded via mobile phone. These officers demanded bribes from Jayawathi, saying if not, they would hand over the court order to her. After the above incident, these two officers went to her son’s house. Her son told them to go to her mother’s place. Jayawathi and her son live in two separate houses. The said two officers were not happy with her son’s statement and lodged a false complaint with Pinwatta police. Her son was arrested by Pinwatta police due to a false complaint lodged by the two fiscal officers. Jayawathi has complained about this injustice to the Inspector General of Police and the Human Rights Commission. According to Jayawathi, though her son has a criminal background, the police cannot violate his rights guaranteed by the constitution.
