Torture victim and his family terrified by Panadura North Police




A torture victim and his family is terrified and forced by Panadura  North Police,  to withdraw the complaint made against them.

On 10 June, 2011 morning, a gang of policemen attached to Panadura North Police Station, surrounded the house of Dinesh Piriyangara and demanded his family to handover Dinesh. According to Denesh, on his way to the school to drop his son, a policeman got seated forcefully into the trishaw. In fear Dinesh who was driving the trishaw, drove it to his residence and where his family had rescued him form the policeman.

A gang attached to Panadura North Police Station who followed Dinesh, surrounded his house and scolded in utter filth the inmates and the villagers who gathered there. Due to the protest of the family members and the villagers, policemen have withdrawn from the scene threatening reprisal.

On last 23 January 2011, Dinesh was arrested by the same Panadura North Police on an alleged involvement in the theft of tiles from a construction site owned by a former Deputy Inspector General of Police, and was tortured to get a confession from him. Later Dinesh filed a petition at the Supreme Court for torture and illegal detention.

Now the said Panadura North Police tries its force and best to make him withdraw the case.

This forcing cowardice act of the said police has the blessing of seniors.
