In Sri Lanka, Police dogs are the noble property for
us.When a police dog dies, body will be put in a cars
cat, the last rituals called pansakula will be given and then the body will be
wrapped in a police flag and buried under gun salute. But this is not the story of such a police dog.
It is a story about a 39 years old father of three
who had to go to police on a dispute regarding a dog. It is a story about
police torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Markas Jude Ananda was
summoned to Kobeyigane police to inquire into a complaint.Although he was taken to court, he was not produced
before the judge and detained until 4.30 pm in the evening.
It was for making a warrant only on Markas, instead
of not summoning other six to seven persons involved in the case.Makas Jude Ananda who went to the Kobeyigane police on
a police summon had to be in remand for four days.
This is a good example to exhibit as to how police,
not concerning about justice and fairness, use the court as an instrument to remand
and torture and to insert cruel, inhuman, degrading treatment and punishment.
This could happen in any moment in every police station in the country.
This is the need of the state and the government.
Every government which is in power uses police to suppress people...
